Nashville Scene is an alternative newsweekly in Nashville, Tenn. It was founded in 1989 as an independent paper. Ten years later, it became part of Village Voice Media, which then merged with New Times Media in 2006. Ten years after that, it was acquired by SouthComm Communications, where it remains as of this writing. I was fortunate to have spent a decade of my career there, where I met and worked with many amazing people.
For much of my more than two decades in publishing, I worked as a reporter, columnist, web developer, and IT professional for several different news outlets in Middle Tennessee. My work at Middle Tennessee State University’s Sidelines and Franklin, Tennessee’s The Review Appeal were mostly pre-Internet and are therefore not available online. However, here are a few selected favorites from the Scene that were born out of that era of my life.
